I’ve created a list of frequently asked questions, and the answers, about cockatiel cages, to assist you in your search for information regarding cockatiel cages.

What is the best type of cockatiel cage?
Round cockatiel cages are not recommended, since they are not usually the most comfy for this type of bird to dwell in, so a square cage could be a much better option. Many cages have got metal bars in them, similar to perch bars. Those which are plastic or coated with plastic are more suitable; for cleaning reasons. In addition, if you choose a cage, ensure that the clean out trap inside the bottom can be removed and replaced with no difficulty, in order that your precious animal doesn’t get out by mistake.

Is there anything else I must purchase when I get a cockatiel cage?
Cockatiels like to nap in the dark, so a cage cover would be ideal for this. Cage covers are produced so that a bird receives the proper air even through the cloth. Cockatiels like to have a few toys to play with, in the cage, and you should have a source of fresh water and feed for your pet. You will also want to get some more perches for your bird to perch on. Cockatiels rather busy. They are extremely intelligent birds. Make certain that the cage has a grate on the floor of it, as these birds usually go onto the floor of the cage regularly.

How wide must the bars be on a cockatiel cages?
When we think about the bars in Cockatiel cages, we don’t usually need to think how strong they are, because a Cockatiel generally can not pry the bars on cockatiel cages with their beak. They don’t possess enough strength in their beak to do this. Typically, it is the width of each bar in the cage that we must take into consideration. A good distance for the bars in a Cockatiel cage would be approximately one half of an inch apart.

What may be a good dimensions for a Cockatiel cage?
You should get a cockatiel cage that’s a minimum of 20 inches tall and 20 inches broad. As stated above, Cockatiels rather love fluttering their little wings and moving about, for workout and for playtime.

Can you suggest other sources with additional answers?
Useful sites are hard to come across.  Nevertheless you ought to check out the cockatiel cage forum at http://cockatiel-cage.bidandblog.com .   You’ll with no doubt get answers to every question that you could possibly possess…for free.  The forum also has live auctions for cockatiel cages in addition to a free of charge email service that emails you any time a new cockatiel cage auction is listed.  Couple that with some extra search tools that make finding cockatiel cages painfully simple, and I’d say that it is definitely worth checking out.

New Years Day - Reflections and Hope for The Future

Not long ago, the clock struck midnight and it is now 2010 where I live. Some places have not quite reached midnight yet, but will soon.

I want to wish everyone a happy New Year. If 2009 was not a good year for you, I hope this one will be a lot better. If 2009 was a good year, I wish you continued happiness for 2010.

Sometime this year I will turn 42 years old. Therefore, I wanted to share a few thoughts about life for anyone who has the chance to read this.

Life is short! It goes by very quickly. I still view the events of twenty years ago as if they were yesterday and I have to remind myself that it really was twenty years ago.

There are many paths that people walk in life. We all live different lives and some of our lives are really, really different than the lives of others.

I remember times of stress. In fact, I count the current period of my life as one of the most stressful ever. Stress can do strange things to people. Your thought process can change. You can find yourself doing and saying things that you would not normally do.

Therefore, my first thoughts would be to remind each person reading this to take time to relax. Get rid of the stress in your life as best you can. One time, I simply let all of my thoughts go through my mind and I just kind of watched them for about 20 minutes. When I got up, I felt 200% better.

Meditation is a very good way to relax and unwind. I have tried several different kinds of meditation in my life. To this day, and in my opinion, the best one has been that of Falun Dafa. There is nothing like it.

As time moves forward, this is my message to a stressed out world: Relax! Take a break from your hard work. Try to keep positive happy thoughts. Negative thinking makes us stress that much more.

There are many problems to solve in this world. Become a great problem solver and you can accomplish much.

Here is some possible help on dental health issues:

1. Oramd

2. hydrofloss

3. Therabreath

I wish you a happy and prosperous 2010.

When you care for your horse, it is vital to make provision for the winter months. Horses need to be able to tolerate the cold climate and stay as healthy as possible. For the period of the winter horses will have special needs which you as the owner will have to tackle. It is imperative to prepare for winter in advance.

Horses are naturally tolerant to cold climates. In fact, horses handle icy weather a lot better than scorching weather. Regardless of this, there are some necessary things owners will need to do to ensure their horses remain in good health. You should make sure the horse doesn’t have any fleas, and has been immunized. The expenses for doing these things will significantly pay off in the winter, as the expenses of feeding your horse will be lower.

You may also wish to consult your vet in planning up a health plan to care for your horses. Helping your horse prepare for winter will help it lower the requirement to eat copious amounts of food in order to retain its weight. Your horse shouldn’t lose any weight during the colder months. Allowing your horse to gain a small amount of weight will aid them through the winter months, as the extra fat will work as a cushion to supply the horse with energy if it becomes stressed. In the winter you will want to provide your horse with some extra calories.

Probably the most effective protection for a horse in the winter is its actual winter coat. If allowed to grow, it will act as a warm jumper which will lessen the heat loss that the horse is subjected to in cold scenarios. The coat is also slick and will brush off the frost and ice. If your horses are kept outside, you will want to ensure their coats grow long enough prior to winter commencing.

To monitor the condition of your horse, you will need to rub its ribs. A longer coat may indeed hide the fact that your horse has lost weight You should be able to feel your horses ribs, but not be able to see them. You should also feel your horses ears. Are they cold? If so it’s a good indication that your horse is cold.

As is the case with every warm blooded animal, your horse must maintain its body temperature to stay fit and well. It is vital that they conserve heat during the winter, so you should ensure they’re ready for the frost.

Animal Sanctuary Dogs

My family run an animal sanctuary in Birmingham, England. There at times when we feel like tearing our hair out as some of the owners really could do with one hell of a shake; they certainly are not fit to look after a dog and some are just so uncaring it defies belief. They should not be seen as just a bit of fun which they can then get rid of when they get bored.

In more recent years I have started to become less and less involved with the running of the sanctuary. I work in other sectors including upvc doors, offering a how to stop stuttering course and advising people about medical negligence claims.

Many people arrive at the animal sanctuary with their pets, which are mainly dogs, with many excuses as to why they are no longer able to look after or care for them. I am sure many of their reasons are valid but am also aware that many others are just an excuse to offload them.

The excuses they give are varied:

I have recently divorced from my husband and can no longer afford to keep this dog as a pet.

The dog has started to bite my children

The dog is too difficult to handle and is destroying my furniture

We have recently moved into a flat. One of their rules is that no animals can live in these flats

The dog barks to much and it is upsetting the neighbours

We have a number of cats and rabbits who are really not taking to our dog

The dog is affecting my health

I am too ill to look after my dog

As well as the dogs in the sanctuary we also have a few of our own “pet dogs”. These tend to be the waifs and straifs that other people tend not to choose. One such dog is called Cassie. She is full of life and has been ill treated it seems when she was a puppy. Half of her left ear is missing and she is seemingly quite afraid of men.

Cassie is need of a huge amount of care and attention. She can be too lively at times which is possibly why three people who attempted to re-home her, have bought her back. She is not aggressive in any way but does tend to jump up at people.

Cassie is turning into a wonderful dog to have around the house and now feels for the first time as part of a family.

With a little more patience most other dogs can turn out this way. This is why we want more people to take more responsibility and to give their animals more of a chance to settle into their homes, and to get used to a new set of rules.

Equine Colic - Information and Advice

A diagnosis of colic is a situation that worrries any horse lover. So what exactly is colic in horses? What symptoms should you look for?

Colic is in reference to pain which stems from the abdomen. Normally horses will not handle pain of the abdomen well. So if there is any abnormality in gut function they will usually show signs of discomfort.

Visible signs of irritation could be stretching, standing as if to urinate, and pawing the ground. If in more pain the horse will stand up and lie down, and roll to try to become more comfortable.

It will start to sweat. More serious cases it will get up and lie down and roll constantly.

What Can You Do?
If you believe your horse is suffering from colic, it’s best to call an experienced equine vet straight away. They will be able to provide rapid pain relief and make a decision whether additional treatment is appropriate.

What can you do while waiting for the vet? Leading your horse for a walk sometimes helps. It may encourage his intestines to work ina normal manner and soothe any pain. It may also further prevent him lying down to roll. If however he is already lying down peacefully then you should let him stay lying down.

It was previously thought that horses could twist its gut by rolling around. That is probably incorrect. However it is preferred to stop him rolling over if you can. This way you can stop him harming himself by striking himself on any walls. Of course take care that you don’t cause injury to yourself. It’s likely horses will forget all their normal manners when in pain.

There are several differing reasons as to why horses get colic. Often the signs look similar regardless of what caused it.

How does the vet look into the problem? They will have a listen to the abdomen with a stethoscope which will tell whether there is any more activity in the intestines than normal.

Monitoring the heart rate helps give a good indication of the severity of the discomfort and the seriousness of the issue. Normally a horse with a regular heart rate does not have a sever problem. However fast heart rates are not such a promising sign.

A really helpful part of the examination will be the examination of the rectum. By physically feeling the gut, the vet may be able to identify the cause of the issue. It goes without saying that this is a highly skilled examination, that hasthe potential to be dangerous for both parties. But for an experienced vet the information it gives is invaluable in deciding the cause of the problem. Helping to discover a blockage, or a swollen gut loop as a result of a twist or other intestinal issue.

In all but the most straightforward scenarios the vet may inset a tube through the horses’ nose into the stomach. Though it sounds unpleasant but helps make your horse more comfortable by lowering the built up pressure in the stomach. Doing this can also give the vet useful information about whether the stomach is functioning correctly.

Sometimes the horse might be so much distress that it isn’t possible for the vet to examine him fully without first giving a quantity of pain killer.

Only by considering all of the information revealed by a careful examination is the vet able to make an initial diagnosis. Though it might not be possible to diagnose exactly what is going on.

Sometimes, after the initial inspection, your horse requires emergency surgery. But more usually the vet will choose to treat the horse with a short-acting painkiller and review his condition after a few hours. Most examples show a rapid improvement. Although others will either not respond to the treatment, or they might respond initially, then start showing signs of pain again later.

In preference to having to bring the vet out several times, it is usually better to transport these cases to a specialist equine practice so they can be closely monitored and operations can be performed if necessary.

In Conclusion
Luckily the vast majority of cases respond quickly to medical intervention. But if surgery is necessary - it is vital to operate as soon as possible. The likelyhood of a successful outcome is much better if the operation is performed before too much damage has taken place.

For your pet to live a long time, a proper ferret diet is crucial. Without proper feeding your ferret is at risk for some severe health troubles. Ferrets evolved to be meat eaters and need a low fiber, high protein diet in order to thrive. Several years ago the best choice for feeding ferrets was high quality cat food. You can still purchase premium quality cat food for your ferret, but there are now many different ferret food choices on the market that provide the combination that your pet needs - high quality fat along with low carbohydrates. With the proper mix your ferret should be able to achieve its maximum life span.
The proper diet is extremely important for a baby ferret. When buying food for your ferret, here’s what to look for: 35-40% protein, 18-30% fat, 2% fiber, 21 amino acids, less than 7% ash and some good carbohydrates like rice flour or brewer’s yeast. Watch out for some ferret foods that use frozen fish as your ferret will not eat it. Some ferrets may even refuse food that they don’t like until they starve. High quality ferret food is often costlier than a premium quality cat food, however ferrets don’t eat very much, so buying quality food shouldn’t be that expensive in the long run. Supplements will not be required if you are feeding your ferret a healthy diet.
Your ferret will need to eat at least twice a day to ensure the amount calories required to maintain good health. Because ferrets are small animals the portion sizes given to them should be small as well. With a moist diet, the food can only be left out for about forty five minutes and then, if it has not been eaten in that time frame, it should be removed. If you want to have the food available for longer than that, you may want to consider dry pellet food. Dry pellets help to keep your pet’s teeth clean and can be left in your ferret’s cage for the entire day. If you choose a dry pellet diet for your pet, remember that there should also be fresh water available. It appears that ferrets would rather drink from a dish than a water bottle, so give them their fresh water supply in a bowl. Also, be sure to change the water often to ensure freshness and cleanliness.
Treats are not required for your ferret buy they can be helpful if you’re trying to train or housebreak your pet. Good snack options are cooked eggs and meats. You should stay away from high-sugar fruits or candy as well as any dairy products like ice cream or milk. Furthermore, be sure to avoid nuts or nut products. Any of these things can cause nutritional problems. Several health problems that your ferret might encounter include malnutrition, obesity, tooth decay, diarrhea, intestinal blockage, insulinmoa and hypoglycemia. Treats should be used sparingly so your ferret doesn’t reject its normal food. Your ferret can’t digest vegetables and grains very well, so it’s best to stay away from them. And, make sure you never give your pet onions because they are poisonous to ferrets.
Making sure your ferret has a healthy diet is crucial in maintaining a long and healthy life. Your ferret will be content, comfy and less susceptible to any life-threatening illnesses. Most ferret owners are known for giving their pets lots of love and affection, however, the best way to be kind to your ferret is to make sure they are fed correctly.

The Arabian horse originates from the Arabian Peninsula, where it can be traced back over 2000 years.

Strength, beauty and endurance are typical traits of this breed of horse. Many experts on horses have concluded that Arabian horses are among the oldest breeds in the world.

The nomadic Bedouins were first given credit for taming Arabs. Bedouin people took the ancestry of these breeds very seriously and could back date the lineages of the horses they owned. When searching for horses for sale, there are a few points which are worth thinking about to make the buying process easier, and to ensure you end up with your desired horse.

  • All horses have issues – just make sure that your chosen one has faults that you can live with and that won’t lessen your enjoyment.
  • Bring an experienced rider along, someone who is knowledgable of your capabilities and weaknesses. In an ideal world take someone who is able to spot lameness or illness. Or even your instructor who will be able to tell if the chosen horse is appropriate for the way you ride – your level of skill and confidence.
  • Always check the horse’s documets and passport.  A passport is not legal proof that your chosen horse is owned by the person selling it so ask if there is a receipt as proof of purchase. It is against the law to sell or purchase horses minus a passport.
  • Ask if all vaccinations are up to date. A course of vaccinations can cost a lot of money and can take months to come into effect before you can compete.  It will not go down well if you move a horse to another horse if it is carrying an illness with it.
  • Once you have decided the horse is for you, ask a vet to perform out the most thorough inspection that you can afford. Don’t make a rush decision or be pressured into purchasing if you feel you need the horse checked out by your vet.
  • Where possible view your chosen horse or pony performing the trials you would like it to do. Retraining a horse will add a considerable amount to the total cost if you are unable to do this on your own.
  • Try to negotiate a trial period in which the horse can be sent back if it does not suit.
  • Make sure you are realistic when buying a young horse, do you have the necessary experience to bring it on. At the other end of the scale a more mature horse may just have the stability and maturity to give you confidence and help you learn you the ropes.
  • Don’t feel you have to purchase the first horse you view and don’t be pursuaded by the multitudes of others that are waiting to buy the horse if you don’t – more than likely this is just a ruse to push you to make an impulse buy. Take your time when buying a horse.
  • As soon as the sale is completed take out insurance on the horse before you transport it.  The majority of injuries occur during transit or settling a horse into a new yard with other horses.
  • Trust your instinct – if you think the vendor is hiding something from you then the likelyhood is they are.
  • Be mindful that your horse is a huge investment of both your time and your money – be sure you have considered a budget for all the expenses that you are likely to encounter.
